This month features some of my favorite photos. In Late 2016 I got an email from Jeff Griffith, the creative director for the Civil War Trust who produce a magazine ‘Hallowed Ground’. He wanted to know if I would be willing to donate one of my photos to be published in an up coming issue.
This was that photo;
It is off of what was the one the tees of then Shenandoah golf course and now part of conservatory. The land was the site of a civil war battle. Cool Spring Battlefield was being written in the upcoming publication, and they were looking for a photo. It was found on Fixr and I was asked if they could use it.
I was very honored when they published. They were kind enough to send me two copies of magazine.
This started an email exchange with the publisher, and a few other photographers of upcoming articles, and the battle fields. They were looking for pictures for these future articles.
Joan and I decided to make a trip of one of them, and went to Petersburg Battlefield. We learned a lot, and I got some great images.
They published a few of them, the large one is my most favorite, with the sky so dramatic. It and the small one on the left were in the set published. The one on the right was taken by a famous battle known as the crater, and was not the subject of the article, but one of our favorites from the trip.
You can read of the site here on the Cival War Trust’s site.
Giving context to each month’s photos is like receiving a new gift each month.
Thanks, Kevin
